Safe Streets Safe Neighborhoods
Safe Streets Safe Neighborhood utilizes credible messengers to prevent and reduce gun violence through de-escalation and connecting individuals to community resources in St. Louis' most violent neighborhoods.
Program Overview
Safe Streets Safe Neighborhoods (SSSN) specially trains Victim Outreach Workers (VOWs) to provide support and resource connections to those affected by gun violence. The SSSN team begins referrals to partner service organizations within 24 hours of a shooting and follows up to ensure services are delivered.
Additionally, while on the scene, SSSN gathers crucial information about the shootings such as: motivation, preceding conflicts, possible suspects, and potential retaliation. SSSN’s work ensures that opportunities for escalation and retaliation are diminished while victims are supported in their most vulnerable time.
The program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Program Eligibility
The program works with crime victims and residents of St. Louis City who have been directly impacted by violence.
