Leadership Academy

The Six Pillars of Leadership Excellence form the base of the Leadership Academy.

Leadership Begins Here!

The Department of Personnel's Training and Organizational Development Division (TODD) is pleased to announce the launch of The Leadership Academy!  The Leadership Academy is a competency-based leadership development program for supervisors and managers in the City service.  The Academy focuses on the development of 24 Leadership Competencies, which we believe are critical to successful leadership.  The competencies are designed to provide a framework for developing and maintaining leadership effectiveness consistent with the needs and mission of each department in the City service.  Leaders at all levels in the classified service should be actively and regularly engaged in professional development activities to enhance their personal skills in order to contribute to the successful accomplishment of the mission, values, and goals of their respective departments.  The Leadership Academy is the place to begin developing those skills.

The Six Pillars of Leadership Excellence form the base of the Leadership Academy.  The Pillars are: Building Organizational Community; Demonstrating and Fostering Integrity; Possessing a Strategic Business Orientation; Communicating Effectively; Developing Personal Effectiveness; and Building a Service Culture.  Course offerings in each of the Pillars are correlated to appropriate Leadership Competencies to ensure well-rounded student development.  In addition to the existing mandatory course requirements for City supervisors, the Leadership Academy will require additional student coursework, taught by both TODD instructors and guest subject matter experts. Managers and supervisors who successfully meet the Leadership Academy requirements will become proficient in each of the Six Pillars, and will receive certification as a City of St. Louis Municipal Leader

You will find a list of the 24 Leadership Competencies, an outline of the Six Pillars and related classes, curriculum requirements, and an application for participation by following the links below:
