Faisal Khan

Dr. Faisal Khan joined the City of St. Louis Department of Health as Director of Health in 2026. As Director, he leads the department’s efforts to protect and improve the health of City of St. Louis residents through disease prevention, emergency preparedness, environmental health, public health services, public health promotion, and community partnerships.

Dr. Khan is a medical epidemiologist and public health leader with more than 25 years of experience in public health practice, administration, and epidemiology. Throughout his career, he has led public health initiatives at the local, state, national, and international levels, with expertise in communicable disease prevention and control, public health systems improvement, emergency preparedness, and population health.

Before joining the City of St. Louis, Dr. Khan served as Director of Public Health – Seattle & King County from 2022 to 2025. He previously served as Director of the St. Louis County Department of Public Health, where he led efforts to modernize the department through data-informed decision-making, strengthened community partnerships, and guided the department’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Between his two tenures in St. Louis County, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Khan directed statewide HIV/AIDS and STD programs in West Virginia and Massachusetts and served as Director of Health Services Research and Quality Improvement for a multi-state healthcare quality improvement organization. His international public health experience includes work in Pakistan, Australia, Vietnam, South Africa, Botswana, and other countries, focusing on communicable disease control, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, immunization programs, and public health program development.

Dr. Khan completed his medical training in Pakistan and postgraduate training in Australia. He is an active member of the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO).
