What to Expect

When you come to the Health Stop for HIV or STI testing, we review your sexual health history and ask general questions to look for symptoms. You don’t need to do extra preparation for these tests, but you can prepare for your exam by thinking back through the last several months and making a note about any symptoms you may have experienced, no matter how minor they seemed.

The Health Stop Testing and Referral Center offers:

  • HIV -performed by finger-prick or blood draw test
  • Hepatitis C -performed by finger-prick test
  • Gonorrhea and Chlamydia - performed by providing a urine sample, mouth swab, and/ or rectal swab.
  • Syphilis - performed through a blood sample or by finger-prick test
  • Self-HIV Test- designed to allow you to take the HIV test anonymously and in private with the collection of an oral fluid sample by swabbing your gums with the test device.  You can obtain your kit for free at the Health Stop. For more information on HIV self-testing or to order your kit by mail, visit takemehome.org.

Results for Sexually transmitted infections will be available within 5-7 business days after testing or within 15 minutes for rapid tests performed.

If you need assistance performing or reading your test results, referrals, or linkage to care (positive results), please call the Health Stop at 314-657-1584. One of our representatives will assist you with your questions.
