Comptroller Darlene Green invites you to join her and roll up your sleeve to give blood at the American Red Cross Charles Drew Blood Drive. The annual blood drive is Friday, August 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in City Hall Room 208.
Your single donation can help save up to three lives. August is the time of the year when blood is needed most because the American Red Cross usually gets a lot of their blood supply from schools and other educational institutions during the year. Since school is out for the summer, August becomes the month when it is crucial to replenish the gift of life.
Dr. Charles Drew was a pioneer in discovering ways to preserve donated blood and established the first American Red Cross blood bank. It was during his work at Columbia University where Drew made his discoveries relating to the preservation of blood and his system for storing blood plasma revolutionized the medical profession.
We all know someone who has needed blood. Make the commitment today to give at the American Red Cross Charles Drew Blood Drive. To schedule your appointment, contact Alicia Smith at (314) 614-7620 or email her at smithar@usa.redcross.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.
