Comptroller Darlene Green has brought PNC Bank and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) together again to host a Free Tax Preparation event at the William J. Harrison Education Center.  The address is 3140 Cass Avenue, which is located across from Vashon High School.  Taxes will be prepared between 4:30 - 8:30 p.m.  This session will help those who still haven't had their taxes done get them in before the April deadline.

The event is being held in the evening as a convenience for working adults and families.  Taxpayers should arrive early and come prepared.  They should bring photo identification, social security cards, W-2s, 1099 forms, a copy of last year's taxes and appropriate banking information for their refund.  The income limit for the free tax preparation service is $58K annually.

Tax professionals will prepare and electronically file 2013 Federal and State returns at no cost to residents.  This year's tax filing deadline is Tuesday, April 15th.  The average cost to have a tax return prepared by a professional is $261 if itemizing deductions, $152 if filing a standard return.  This is money that hard-working residents can keep for themselves.

Refunds are generally received in less than 21 days, direct deposits can be received within 7 days.
