City Employee Soldiers Recognized

The men of Upsilon Omega Fraternity recently honored SFC Kevin Hartmann, 1SG Paul Drago, and 1SG Robert Nesbitt.

The men of  Upsilon Omega, along with Alderwoman  Kacie Starr Triplett and then Director of Public Safety, Charles Bryson, presented  awards to three outstanding soldiers on February 18, 2012 — SFC Kevin Hartmann, 1SG Paul Drago, and 1SG Robert Nesbitt — who are part of a small Battalion of  Drill Sergeants in Granite City, IL, 334 REGT. These soldiers, all employees of the City of St. Louis, have served meritoriously and with exceptional distinction on two extremely important fronts.

SFC Kevin Hartmann, a Medic for the St. Louis City, served in Iraq and received a Purple Heart. He contributed directly to the fight by transporting supplies over the perilous roads of Iraq to support an operational FOB. Throughout multiple missions, SFC Hartmann delivered mail and other critical supplies to the soldiers operating on the FOB. His actions greatly enhanced the morale of the soldiers and epitomized the Army's value of personal courage. 


1SG Paul Drago, a St. Louis City Police Officer, was a Combat Advisor in Afghanistan and received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He displayed tireless devotion to the safety and well being of his soldiers and utilized composite risk management in all aspects of his team's day to day duties. 1SG Drago's diligence resulted in zero accidents during nine months of combat operations while deployed to Afghanistan. 

1SG Robert Nesbitt works as a Correctional Officer for the City of St. Louis. He received the Bronze Star Medal while serving as a Combat Advisor during Operation Iraqi Freedom; 1SG Nesbitt's superb leadership and competence while advising and training his Iraqi counterparts are directly responsible for accomplishment of Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq.
