Principal Arterial Traffic Safety Enhancements

The City of St. Louis is pursuing over $ 46,000,000 in improvements to address speeding, crash concentrations, and pedestrian and alternative movements throughout approximately 30 miles of corridors and select intersections in the City.

Project Overview

The City of St. Louis is pursuing over $ 46,000,000 in improvements to address speeding, crash concentrations, and pedestrian and alternative movements throughout approximately 30 miles of corridors and select intersections in the City. Improvements include pavement resurfacing, lane reconfigurations/reductions, restriping, various ADA improvements, traffic signal retimings, additional shared/protected bicycle facilities, etc. The proposed improvements integrate field investigations of the existing conditions as well as recommendations from previous traffic studies completed along the corridors.

The project intends to reduce overall speeding, errant driving, and vehicular accidents (involving pedestrian fatalities/injuries and property damage). The improvements will also offer safer multimodal movements (pedestrians, transit riders, and cyclists) throughout the project locations.

The following locations encompass the corridor traffic safety enhancements:

  • Union Blvd. (Enright Ave. to Florissant Ave.)
  • Goodfellow Blvd. (Delmar Blvd. to Halls Ferry Circle)
  • Grand Blvd. (Holly Hills Ave. to Hall St.)
  • Jefferson Ave. (Chippewa St. to Chouteau Ave.)
  • Kingshighway Blvd. (Gravois Ave. to Florissant Ave.)
  • 4th St. (Chouteau Ave. to Convention Plaza)
  • Convention Plaza (4th St. to Broadway)
  • Washington Ave. (3rd St. to 14th St.)
  • Broadway (Cole St. to Chouteau Ave.)

The City is also make safety improvements to 10 intersections that are among the top crash locations within the City. Some intersections are already located with the project corridors and will be integrated:

  1. Broadway and Washington Ave.
  2. Broadway and Walnut St.
  3. Grand Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway
  4. North Grand Blvd./Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd./Evans Ave.
  5. Grand Blvd. and Gravois Ave.
  6. Kingshighway Blvd. and Lindell Blvd.
  7. Kingshighway Blvd. and Delmar Blvd.
  8. Gravois Ave./Russell Ave./Tucker Blvd.
  9. Florissant Ave. and Palm Ave.
  10. Lindell Blvd./Whittier St.

Funding

The project is funded per Ordinances 71494 and 71650. The improvements along Washington Ave. and 4th St. are being funded through a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant.

Status
