Dena grew up in Sedalia, Mo., in a family that was very involved with public service. She attended college in Lindsborg, Kansas and graduated with a degree in Psychology. After college Dena moved to Los Angeles, Ca., and worked with people with severe disabilities and serious behavior problems. She then switched tactics and moved to San Diego, Ca. where she worked with show horses for several years.
Dena moved back to Missouri in 1993 and worked for Missouri Department of Mental Health MR/DD for many years as a case manager supporting people with developmental disabilities in the City of St. Louis. It was during that time that Dena became aware of the Neighborhood Stabilization program and accepted a job as an NSO in 2000.
