Information about seasonal influenza in the City of St. Louis.

Overview

The timing of flu is very unpredictable and can vary in different parts of the country and from season to season. Seasonal flu viruses can be detected year-round, however, seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May. Flu activity most commonly peaks in the United States between December and March.

The Department of Health monitors influenza rates and offers guidance about flu vaccines.

Influenza Vaccines

The City of St. Louis Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older as the first and most important step in protecting against this serious disease.

Influenza Reports

Reports detail the weekly percentage of emergency room visits for influenza-like illness, incidence rate (number of new cases) by age group of confirmed influenza cases, and compares the current influenza season to previous influenza seasons.

Reports are posted every Friday during the influenza season (October to May).
