The Accounting Services Section of the Comptroller's Office is responsible for all City of St. Louis accounting activities.

Overview

The Accounting Services section is responsible for all of the city’s accounting activities. This section reviews and processes accounts payable, manages and balances the city’s accounting and financial records, supervises payroll, updates the Central Business Index (CBI) business tax and license records, assists in decisions for risk to insure or self-insure, and administers the citywide travel policy.

Divisions

Accounts Payable

Reviews, processes and pays for all city expenditures for goods and services.

General Ledger Control Group

Manages and balances the city's Automated Accounting System (AIMS). This control function encompasses data entry, document flow, and generates all journal entries.

Central Business Index

Central Business Index personnel maintain and continually update files containing tax and license records. These files are used to process tax clearances and various reports.

Travel Management

Administers the citywide travel policy, which sets rules for allowable expenses, meal allowance, etc. Travel management ensures travel advances and airline tickets are ordered and available for city travelers and coordinates reconciliation of travel advances in a timely manner.
