STL Airport Relocating Ride App Pickup Zones at T1 and T2

St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) is relocating the pickup zones for Ride App companies beginning Wednesday, December 12.

Pickup zones for Uber and Lyft riders will be moved to separate locations from the traditional passenger pickup zones. 

The new Ride App Pickup zone at Terminal 1 is being moved to the upper roadway level at the west end of the terminal on Departures Drive, closest to Entry 6.  

Ride App operators are currently using this location due to a roadway construction project, and will remain once that project is completed. The Ride App Pickup zone at Terminal 2 remains on Arrivals Drive (lower), but is being moved to the curb between Entries 15 and 16.  

“This is the first of several improvements we plan to take as a result of a months-long ground transportation study,” said STL Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “The goal is to improve the experience for our passengers, motorists and partner shuttle drivers. The redistribution of pickup zones should begin to reduce traffic congestion at certain parts of the day and thus, reduce the passenger pick up wait times.”  

The new Terminal 1 Ride App Pickup zone will have five dedicated vehicle spots near Entry 6. That will free up the 12 vehicle spaces at the current passenger pickup zone on Arrivals Drive for personal vehicles. The new Terminal 2 Ride App Pickup zone will accommodate approximately 17 vehicle spots. That also reduces congestion at the current passenger pickup zone at T2, which has approximately eight spots for personal vehicles.  

The ground transportation study, presented to the St. Louis Airport Commission on December 5, also recommended other improvements at Terminal 2 where the Airport has seen significant increases in passenger activity and motor vehicle traffic. Recommendations include eliminating left hand turns from Air Cargo Road to accommodate a triple left turn lane from eastbound Lambert International Boulevard into Terminal 2.

Another idea is to create additional entries into the Terminal 2 Garage to reduce vehicle congestion directly in front of the terminal. The Airport is currently reviewing those recommendations. 

STL airlines average more than 250 daily departures to 71 destinations. Through October 2018, STL has served 13,063,431 total passengers, up 6.1 percent over the first nine months of 2017.
