ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR SECOND ANNUAL 'HEALTHY LIVING @ YOUR LIBRARY' EVENTS AT YOUR LIBRARY

 The St. Louis Public Library is proud to announce the schedule for its second annual "Healthy Living @ Your Library." Throughout the year, the Library will host health-related programs based on three elements---Budget-Friendly Nutrition, Stress Release, and Exercise. The topics were gleaned from a survey conducted during the "2014 Consumer Information Speaker Series" events. All events are FREE and open to the public.

March 14

Professional cook and Operation Food Search Outreach Coordinator Mariella Funk explains healthy eating on a budget. Take home recipe cards and informational handouts.  (While supplies last).

Healthy Eating on a Budget

Operation Food Search provides tips on how to grocery shop on a budget and includes a demonstration of an easy, nutritious recipe.  Free samples, recipe cards, and nutrition tips.  (While supplies last).

Philip Horn, MSW, MPH, covers the latest research on the benefits of meditation practice, basic exercises for meditation practice, and a hands-on demonstration of sitting for meditation and breathing spaces. Participants will leave with several tools they can use to reduce their daily stress.

Laughter Yoga – Laugh for the Health of it!

Instructor Marlene Chertok, founder of the St. Louis Laughter Club, is a registered nurse and certified laughter yoga leader. The sessions are open to people of all ages and abilities and to anyone who wants to laugh!

OASIS Exercise

Juliet Curtis, of OASIS, provides free beginners classes about the benefits of exercise and how to improve functional fitness. Learn basic exercises that are not only safe and effective, but energizing and fun! This is a low impact exercise program.
