Comptroller Darlene Green is sponsoring free tax preparations and banking consultations for low-to-moderate earners, senior citizens and individuals with disabilities, from 4:30 p.m. –8:30 p.m. on two evenings, Wed.,  Feb. 10 and Wed., Feb. 17.  Both events will be held at the William J. Harrison Education Center, at 3140 Cass Ave. (across from Vashon High School).

In addition to IRS-certified tax preparers being on hand to provide free tax assistance, 1st Financial representatives will offer "second chance" opportunities for opening free savings and checking accounts, and provide consultations on other banking services.

All 2015 Federal and State (includes Illinois and other states) returns will be electronically filed. Preparers will help taxpayers apply for all tax credits for which they qualify, including earned income tax credits (EITC) and "circuit breaker" tax credits for seniors and those with disabilities.

Qualifying City employees are invited and should bring all W-2's, and 1099's; valid ID; social security cards or taxpayer identification numbers for all family members; and other materials. For a full list of items to bring, visit the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) website at naba-stl.org/vita/, or call LaTaunia Wilder at (314) 657-3422.
