ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY'S AUTHORS @ YOUR LIBRARY SERIES DECEMBER LINEUP

The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present Eileen P. Duggan and Matthew S. Nolan; Ryan Nusbickel; and Elizabeth Terry, John Wright, and Patrick McCarthy as part of the December installment of its popular Authors @ Your Library series.  The series will also feature a panel discussion about baseball featuring Gary W. Abbott, Ed Koehler and Robert L. Tiemann.  And, finally, the Library is honored to host the Book Release Reception for the anthology, Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 4.  All events are FREE and open to the public.

· Eileen P. Duggan and Matthew S. Nolan discuss and sign their book, 250 Years—252 Cakes: The Definitive St. Louis 250thAnniversary Cake Book.  The program takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive St., on December 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Photographer Nolan and author Duggan researched each of the oversized cakes created by local artists, which served as temporary historic markers and chronicled the significance of each institution.

· Ryan Nusbickel signs his newest book, The St. Louis 12 Days of Christmas.  The program takes place at Central Express, 815 Olive St., Ste. 160, on December 10 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The St. Louis 12 Days of Christmasis a sweet retelling of a holiday classic, served just in time for the season.

Nusbickel, a former television reporter, won an Emmy Award despite spending way too much time drawing cartoons in the news van. He has since put away his reporter's pad to pursue his unique brand of illustrated stories for both young and old readers.

· Elizabeth Terry, John Wright, and Patrick McCarthy discuss and sign their book, Ethnic St. Louis.  The program takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive St., on December 10 at 7 p.m.

Ethnic St. Louis is a first-of-its-kind compendium illustrating the importance of diverse communities to the city's rich past, complex current identity, and interconnected future. It highlights the many communities that make St. Louis a vibrant, multi-ethnic city.

· Authors Gary W. Abbott, Ed Koehler and Robert L. Tiemann participate in a panel discussion and sign their books about St. Louis' favorite game: Baseball. The program takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive St., on December 12 at 2 p.m.

Abbott's book, The Lost Decade: Players of the 1970s Cardinals, profiles all 228 players who wore the uniform during that era, from the Hall of Famers to the late-season call-ups. Includes seasonal recaps, best and worse trades, and more.

Koehler, in collaboration with author Carolyn E. Mueller, has created a rich graphic telling of a St. Louis legend:  Dizzy Dean and the Gashouse Gang.  History remembers Dizzy not only for his pitching prowess but also for his character off the mound.

Tiemann, co-author of 10 Rings: Stories of the St. Louis Cardinals World Championships, examines the drama involving the personalities that elevated these teams to World Champions. Each summary includes how the Cards won the pennant, line scores of each World Series game, and great photos.

· Book Release and Reception for the anthology,Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 4.  The program takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive St., on December 19 from 1-2 p.m.

Local and national military personnel, veterans, and veterans' family members read short excerpts from Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 4, a collection of prose, poetry, and photographs from World War II to the present.

The Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors anthology is made possible through collaboration of the Missouri Humanities Council and Southeast Missouri State University Press.
