In downtown St. Louis this weekend, all lanes of eastbound I-64 will be closed for bridge work from Jefferson to the Poplar Street bridge. The closures begin at 3 a.m., Saturday morning and the interstate will reopen by 3 p.m., Sunday afternoon.

Two lanes on the westbound Poplar Street bridge will also close, starting at 5 a.m., Saturday. The lanes are expected to reopen by 5 p.m., Sunday. In addition, one eastbound lane on the Poplar Street bridge will close from 5 a.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday.

MoDOT strongly urges motorists to avoid the Poplar Street Bridge area because there may be traffic back-ups. Use alternate routes such as I-255, or the Eads, McKinley or Martin Luther King bridges.

Crews will perform earthquake seismic retrofit work during this interstate closure. They will make repairs on the bridge’s driving surface. The work has to be done this weekend to stay on schedule, which is an on-going process to maintain the bridges along I-64 and strengthen them to withstand an earthquake.
