MoDOT to cut ribbon on new Cass Avenue bridge

ST. LOUIS - After being closed for more than four years, the Missouri Department of Transportation is reopening the new Cass Avenue Bridge on October 7.

The public is invited to join MoDOT and its contractor Millstone Bangert, Inc. to celebrate the completion of the bridge over I-70 with a ribbon cutting, Friday, October 7, 2011 at 10 a.m.

Parking around the bridge is somewhat limited, but attendees should be able to park along the roadways on either side of the bridge.

MoDOT closed the Cass Avenue bridge in September 2007 after determining the bridge was no longer safe for travel.  Design for the new bridge started in mid-2008, and the old bridge was demolished in February 2010. MoDOT needed to complete the Cass Avenue bridge before starting major construction for the Missouri interchange and ramps between I-70 and the new Mississippi River Bridge.
