Building Division
The Building Division is responsible for ensuring that residents and businesses comply with the City building code. The Building Division issues building permits, conducts building inspections, demolishes vacant buildings, and enforces zoning ordinances. The division also operates the Housing Conservation Program designed to preserve the City's housing stock.

New Fees:
- $90.00- First unit
- $50.00- Each additional unit at same address
- $150.00- Each unlawfully occupied unit
The Building Division was established by Article XIII, Section 15 of the St. Louis City Charter as a Division within the Department of Public Safety. The Building Division is responsible for the enforcement of all codes and ordinances regulating the protection of the public health, safety and welfare as related to existing buildings and new construction. In addition, the Building Division enforces a Zoning Ordinance as well as a number of other separate codes.

The Building Division is responsible for issuing building permits for new construction as well as additions or alterations to existing buildings. It also oversees separate Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical Sections that issue permits for the installation, repair and/or replacement of equipment and systems within these projects.
Parking Lot Regulations
The City of St. Louis has implemented new parking lot regulations to reduce break-ins per Building Commissioner's Order #1001. The Building Division will grant waivers to parking lots that have proven to be safe and secure.
