The License Collector’s Office for the City of St. Louis is a County Office under the Statutes of the State of Missouri. St. Louis is the only city within the State that acts as its own County. The position of License Collector is held by a City-wide elected official, Michael McMillan, the current License Collector, who was sworn into Office on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. The License Office is divided into four main departments: Manufacturing, Municipal, Finance, and Field Service. Approximately $50,000,000 in annual tax revenue collected by this office is redistributed to other city agencies, including City police and fire departments, public safety, streets, and other city services such as public schools, St. Louis Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and a host of others that serve the community and support the quality of life for its citizens. The economic development agency for the City of St. Louis was one of only 62 nationwide that received tax credits. It will use the tax credits to help attract funding for business lending; equity investments in emerging businesses; capital for site assembly; gap financing for real estate development; and major project funding. The New Markets Tax Credits program, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, offers non-traditional rates and terms to distressed areas of the metro area.
