According to a recent news release, the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis launched a two-year pilot composting program last month called "Project Compost."  The program focuses on a partnership of restaurants along Washington Avenue between 9th and 14th, all working together to provide environmental stewardship through waste reduction and composting.

The work plan consists of each participating eatery depositing pre- and post-compostable waste into compost bins located on-site with the primary goal of diverting more than 1,500 tons of organic food waste from our landfill per year, totaling a waste diversion goal of 3,000 tons over the two-year life of the pilot project.  Upon completion of this demonstration project, the Partnership's goal is to encourage participating establishments throughout Downtown to advance the composting and recycling process independently.

Project Compost includes the following establishments:  Blondie's Wine & Coffee Bar, Caruso's Deli, Copia, The Dubliner, Flannery's, Gelateria Tavolini, LOLA's, Lucas Park Grille, Mizu Sushi Bar, Nara Cafe & Hookah Lounge, Prime 1000, The Over/Under Grille, Rosalita's Rue 13, Washington Avenue Post, TREx and Park Avenue Coffee.

The project was made possibile by a grant from the Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
