Since 2009, September 11 has been observed as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. On September 11, 2013, and on the days leading up to and following this day, the people of St. Louis will honor 9/11 victims and heroes by joining together in service projects to meet community needs.

This year, military veterans from all branches will come together at service projects around the country to honor the sacrifices of the first responders lost on Sept. 11, 2001 -- and in the years since -- in defense of our country and communities. The Mission Continues has selected the St. Louis Fire Department as one of the organizations for these service projects.

Volunteers will be gathering at St. Louis Fire Department Headquarters and Training Facility at 1421 N. Jefferson from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 to paint, landscape, and clean the facilities.

The Mission Continues needs your help in making this day a success. This service project is an excellent way to show our veterans that we appreciate their service here at home.

Spend a few hours investing in our community.
