Education

SLATE offers several options for attaining secondary educational credentials, including both high school diplomas and AEL/GED/HiSET Certification. 

24-Hour Workforce High School is a new and unprecedented workforce program aimed at giving young adults, ages 17-21, an opportunity to attain a High School Diploma at their convenience.

SLATE offers HiSET testing, as well as test preparation support and remediation. 

Work Readiness

Your search for a first job, a new job, or a new career should begin with a career self-assessment tools, including WIN Initial and Key Train Quick assessments. These tests will determine your individual understanding and reasoning skills in key employment situations and provide guidance about your occupational and educational goals. 

In the digital age, computer skills for employment are a must! SLATE offers regular workshops for job seekers on Basic and Intermediate Computer Skills and utilizing the Internet to improve workers’ visibility, employability, and access to resources.

OJT and Apprenticeships

On-The-Job Training (OJT) offers financial reimbursement to employers that hire new, full-time employees in permanent positions.

Building Union Diversity (BUD) program offers eight (8) weeks of construction training for work-ready job seekers ages 18+ , especially women and minorities, to prepare for construction employment. 

SLATE offers a wide variety of earn-while-you-learn Apprenticeships for in-demand fields, outside construction. 

Career Development

If you don't have a résumé, or wish to update and improve an existing one, SLATE offers Résumé Writing Workshops that provide real-world insight into the best practices hiring managers respond to most.

After your updated résumé, it's time to prepare for your upcoming interviews and show an employer that you are the right fit for the job. To brush up on your interviewing skills, you can sign up for our interview workshop.

Each week, SLATE hosts Workforce Wednesdays, offering resume and application help, job search support, and walk-in interview opportunities with local employers.

Career Advancement and Entrepreneurial Support

Do you already have skills and experience, but feel “stuck” in your current position? Job seekers looking to take the next step on their career path, or needing additional support to change careers can sign up for SLATE’s Advanced/Professional Series Workshops. 

Entrepreneurs and those who want to start their own small businesses can benefit from a menu of Entrepreneurial Services available at SLATE. Entrepreneurs can learn how to assess the feasibility of your ideas and develop a sound business plan, and gain access to a vast array of assistance in such areas as marketing, government procurement, international trade, accounting, and cash flow.

Employer Services

St. Louis area businesses – both large and small – can access a variety of employer services to fill human resource needs, at no cost to employers. Services include Customized Hiring Events held at peer sites or arranged at other sites to assist employers with finding a quality workforce; Talent Identification assisting hiring managers in finding the talent they need through job posting, applicant screening, interviewing candidates and onboarding new hires; Training New and Current Employees offering on-site HiSET (high school equivalency) testing and English as a Second Language (ESL) acquisition services, as well as skills-training scholarships for job seekers; Outplacement Services offering employees employment transition services, should company layoffs occur. 

Additional Services provide labor market, talent supply, and prevailing wage data for existing prospective employers, as well as Work Opportunity Tax Credit/Incentive information and employer seminars.

Specialized Services

SLATE’s highly-trained workforce staff assist with assessment training for job searches, referrals to improve English language skills, and more. Customized efforts are made for individuals with disabilities, workers age 50+, military veterans, young adults/students, and displaced workers, including executive-level job seekers.
