The register has custody of the city seal, original rolls of ordinances, contracts, conditional bonds, title deeds, certificates and papers, and all other records, papers and documents not required by the charter or by ordinance to be deposited elsewhere and register them by numbers, dates and contents, and keep such index thereof as may by ordinance be provided.
