Project Blitz is a yearly citywide clean-up effort generally held in April and May of each year.

Overview

Project Blitz is Operation Brightside's annual campaign to clean up city neighborhoods.

When is Project Blitz In My Neighborhood?

North

Region 1 North - May 4-5, 2013 Boundaries: Natural Bridge on the north; Taylor on the east; Wabash R.R. & Lindell on the south; City limits on the west.

Region 2 North - April 6-7, 2013 Boundaries: Palm & Natural Bridge on the north; Mississippi River on the east; Highway 40 & Wabash R.R. on the south, and Taylor on the west.

Region 3 North - April 13-14, 2013 Boundaries:
W. Florissant on the north; Grand on the east; Natural Bridge on the south, and the City limits on the west.

Region 4 North - April 20-21, 2013 Boundaries:
City limits on the north; Mississippi River on the east; W. Florissant, Grand, & Palm on the south; and the City limits on the west.

South

Region 1 South - May 4-5, 2013 Boundaries: Meramec & Chippewa on the north; Mississippi river on the east; City limits on the south; and Gravois & Kingshighway on the west.

Region 2 SouthApril 6-7, 2013 Boundaries: Highway 40 on the north; Mississippi River on the east; Meramec on the south, and Grand on the west.

Region 3 South - April 13-14, 2013 Boundaries: Highway 40 & Wabash R.R. on the north; Grand on the east; Meramec & Chippewa on the south, and Macklind, Arsenal, & Kingshighway on the west.

Region 4 South - April 20-21, 2013 Boundaries: Forest Park on the north; Gravois, Kingshighway, Chippewa, Macklind, & Arsenal on the east; City limits on the south; and the City limits on the west.

Preparation

Prepare ahead of the Blitz date by volunteering to be a Block Captain or find out if your block already has one. Planning ahead helps is recruiting volunteers and securing cleanup materials.

  1. "Yard Waste Only" (Green Waste) and trash receptacles will be emptied after your Blitz Clean-Up weekend.

    Large appliances, tires, car batteries, and motor oil will also be collected but separately from other bulk items. These items will be recycled.

    All debris must be bagged and put into trash receptacles. Loose debris will NOT be picked up. 
  2. Trash collection will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Monday after your Blitz Clean-Up weekend. Please have all items out by this time.

    If bulk items have not been picked up by Wednesday please call the Citizens Service Bureau at 622-4800.
  3. Branches more than 2 inches in diameter and no longer than 3 feet must be bundled and placed with bulk items for collection. 

Instructions

 If you have dumpsters in your alley 

  1. Place all small items in trash dumpster. Be careful NOT to overload.
  2. Your regular bulk pick-up site is directly behind your home at the edge of the alley. This is where you place large items such as furniture and appliances. Make sure bulk items are at least 4 feet from any dumpster. Do not block any streets, alleys, or sidewalks. Items placed on private property cannot be picked up.
  3. Yard Waste: Place grass, leaves and twigs in "Yard Waste Only" (Green Waste) dumpsters. 

If you have a roll-out cart 

  1. Place all small items in your roll-out cart. Be careful NOT to overload.
  2. Your regular bulk pick-up site is directly in front of your home at the curb. This is where you place large items such as furniture and appliances. Make sure bulk items are at least 4 feet from any roll-out cart. Do not block any streets, alleys, or sidewalks. Items placed on private property cannot be picked up.
  3. Yard Waste: for Blitz only, bag your grass, leaves, and twigs and mark as "yard waste" for collection.

What to Expect

  • Trash collection will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Monday after your Blitz Clean-up Weekend.
  • Alley will be monitored throughout the week by managers of the City's Refuse Division to ensure all items are collected.
