Rev. Johnny Scott, President of the East St. Louis Chapter of the NAACP held an Executive Meeting for the Chapters upcoming 58th Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Casino Queen, an event sponsor along with AMEREN Missouri and Illinois.

The theme this year is Together We Rise…Joining Forces. The focus of the event will be to recognize all areas of our Armed Forces. The historic Mountford Point Marines and the Tuskegee Airmen, both African American forces that served our nation, will also be honored. Michael McMillan, License Collector of the City of St. Louis, and Richard Mark, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ameren Illinois were appointed as Regional Ambassadors of the Chapter and have served as Honorary Co-Chairs of the Chapter’s annual banquet for three years. Both hold Lifetime Memberships. Brendan Kelly, St. Clair County State’s Attorney, is a former Chair and Co-Chair of the Awards Banquet and Lifetime Member will also serve as Honorary Co-Chairman this year.

Though McMillan has actively worked to support all of the area chapters of the NAACP, serving as the Regional Ambassador of the East St. Louis Chapter has given him a much broader perspective of the city and those outstanding people who contribute to its history and accomplishments.
