- Spirit of St. LouisHospitality Discount Card
for COGIC Convocation Delegates -
St. Louis was proud to be the City of choice for the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) 103rd Holy Convocation, one of the largest African-American assemblies to ever be hosted in St. Louis. For such an historic occasion, participants received an incredible St. Louis-style hospitality experience. An unprecedented partnership was formed between the Office of the License Collector, Michael McMillan, License Collector, and the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, Kathleen “Kitty” Ratcliffe, President. Together, they created a customized Spirit of St. Louis COGIC Hospitality Discount Initiative.
During peak registration times, the Spirit of St. Louis COGIC Hospitality Discount Card was made available to convocation delegates and exhibitors at Explore St. Louis kiosks located near the registration area of the America’s Center Convention Complex. Over 130 participating restaurants and retail stores received a counter card for their respective locations to distinguish them as a participating discount business. This extraordinary initiative and partnership provided exceptional discounts to COGIC’s participating card holders as they explored the best variety of culinary and shopping experiences with St. Louis City businesses. The collaboration between the Office of the License Collector, the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Convention and COGIC Convocation planners helped to ensure a rewarding Spirit of St. Louis experience.
Also as a demonstration of a heartfelt tribute and welcome, Michael McMillan presented a 6 ft tall framed rendering of the Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake and stated, “It took us 103 years to get you here and we plan to keep you.” This convocation was held for over 100 years in Memphis. Bringing the convocation to St. Louis was a historic move. In addition, McMillan presented a ministerial collar, adding, “You have given us a royal honor by choosing St. Louis, we present you with a symbol of our appreciation.” Framed Civic Awards were presented to each Bishop serving on the General COGIC Board. McMillan and 17 staff members were joined by Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock and his wife, Rev. Jacqueline Brock, in making the prestigious presentation.
