Comptroller's Office Functions In Brief


Accounting Services
- Captures all of the accounting activities for the City. Functions include accounts payable, central business index, general ledger control group, payroll, and risk management.

Asset Management - Responsible for the accounting of fixed assets and City-owned property. This includes the municipal garage, telecommunications, travel, real estate, and vital records.

Contract Administration - Collects, reviews and processes all contracts the City enters into with outside vendors and service providers.

Federal Grants - Handles the financial management of all federal, state and locally funded grant programs.

Finance and Development - Responsible for the efficient management of the City's financing, improving the City's long-term credit rating and refinancing/restructuring the City's debt.

Financial Reporting - Prepares all external and internal financial reports for the City.

Gateway Transportation Center - The City of St. Louis' state-of-the-art multimodal transportation hub operated by the Comptroller's Office.

Internal Audit - Audits various City departments and offices to ensure City government operates effectively and efficiently. Provides City officials and taxpayers with reasonable assurance that public funds and property are adequately safeguarded.

Telecommunications - Responds to all "voice" telecommunications needs for the City departments promptly, professionally, and accurately and meets its goal of being a "one call" proactive solution for all types of inquiries.
