It is dangerously hot out there.  Because the heat index is expected to be 105 degrees, cooling sites have been activated.  These cooling sites provide respite of air conditioning and cool waterheat in the summer during the hottest part of the day.  The closest sites to us are at Five Star Senior Center, 2830 Arsenal (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday); Salvation Army, 2740 Arsenal (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday); Carpenter Branch Library, 3309 S. Grand (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday & Saturday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday).  Many churches are cool too, and you can pray for cooler weather.

Please remember our pets (change water frequently, bring them inside, provide them shade).  Check on seniors to make sure they are not saving money by keeping the cooling turned off.  And, never, ever ever leave children or pets alone even for a moment in a closed up car.  Temperatures soar in a closed vehicle.

Here is another site from the Red Cross to consult for heat related preparations:
